(Host) University of Vermont President Daniel Fogel will step down earlier than planned.
As VPR’s Ross Sneyd reports, the university isn’t saying why.
(Sneyd) UVM officials were tight-lipped about Fogel’s intentions, other than to say he would share his plans via e-mail.
Enrique Corredera is the chief spokesman at the university.
(Corredera) "All I can say is that we know he is expected to make an announcement regarding his status and his future at the university."
(Sneyd) Still, university officials worked the phones to inform various organizations and political leaders of the plans.
The Vermont Student Assistance Corporation, which manages student loans and financial assistance, received one of the calls.
VSAC was told that Fogel would leave as president at the end of the month.
In March, Fogel announced that he would step down as president next summer and return to the English faculty.
Fogel has led UVM for the past decade through a campus building boom, growth in student population and an economic downturn.
The UVM board of trustees has also scheduled a special meeting. Officials say the only item on the agenda is an executive session to discuss contracts.
