Early Killington pass buyers to get tax refund

Skiers who bought their season passes early for next season at the Killington ski area are going to be getting refunds.

The ski resort began collecting a 1 percent local option tax when it began selling its season passes last month.

That’s after Killington residents approved the 1 percent local option tax on Town Meeting Day. But the tax doesn’t take effect until October first.

Killington officials say that since the passes wouldn’t be used until after October 1st, the resort needed to charge the tax.

But one person complained to the Vermont Tax Department.

Now people who bought the $1,049 passes will be getting refunds of $10.49.
