The private library of late economist John Kenneth Galbraith has been donated to Marlboro College.

The 2,000-volume library includes first-edition books on India – where Galbraith served as ambassador under President John F. Kennedy – and art, among other topics.

It doesn’t have his personal papers, which had already been donated to Harvard Law School.

College spokesman Chris Lenois says the collection will be housed in the school’s Rice-Aron Library and kept separately, with access controlled to protect it.

Galbraith, who died in 2006 at age 97, formerly lived in Townshend. One of his sons, Peter Galbraith, says putting his father’s books at Marlboro College is a great way to honor his parents’ memory in a place they loved.
