Energy independence may be on some March ballots

Activist groups have launched a drive in more than 100 Vermont communities to make the state energy-independent. Southern Vermonters for a Fair Economy and Environmental Protection, the Vermont Natural Resources Council and the Vermont Sierra Club want towns to include on their Town Meeting Day warnings a resolution supporting energy independence. John Berkowitz, a leader of the new effort, says Vermont should develop alternative energy sources, and move away from reliance on oil.
