Entergy’s stance on decommissioning fund appears to change

Vermont Yankee owner Entergy Nuclear says only its subsidiary, Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee, is responsible to pay the costs of decommissioning the plant when it eventually shuts down.

But three Entergy press releases issued around the time the company bought Vermont Yankee in 2002 say Entergy was assuming liability for decommissioning.

Now the chairman of the Commerce Committee in the Vermont House is saying Entergy misled Vermont at the time of the sale.

But Public Service Department Commissioner David O’Brien says Entergy made its intentions clear in legal documents filed at the Public Service board.

Of Entergy’s three press releases, O’Brien says, What difference does it make what a press release says at the end of the day?
