The man accused of running into and killing a Vermont state trooper is now in custody. Police say Eric Daley was arrested Tuesday in northeastern Pennsylvania. Authorities say he was on the Appalachian Trail in the Pocono Mountains.

Helicopters and hundreds of state, county and local law enforcement officers took place in the manhunt. Pennsylvania state police say they had received information that Daley had made his way to Monroe County, having been dropped off along the Appalachian Trail in Delaware Water Gap.

Police believe Daley hit State Police Sergeant Michael Johnson Sunday afternoon on Interstate 91 after Johnson put spike strips across the interstate to try to puncture Daley’s tires. Troopers say Daley was trying to get away from an officer who had stopped him for speeding. Investigators say as troopers went to Johnson’s aid, Daley ran off.
