Essex Suspends Community Park Passes Due To Overcrowding

The Select Board in Essex has voted to suspend the sale of non-residential passes to a 575-acre community park for the 2012 season after receiving a number of complaints about overcrowding and trail degradation.

Mark Berry, the Director of Parks & Recreation in Essex, says that the moratorium on non-residential passes to the town’s Indian Brook Community Park was issued because of a steady increase in use of the park over recent years and the need to determine its capacity.

Berry says the 2012 suspension won’t include non-residents who were pass-holders during the 2011 season.

A survey will be issued this summer to help the Select Board and town officials evaluate the current status of the park.
