One of Vermont’s eight community health centers is expanding in Plainfield. The center will now house mental health services and yoga classes.

The $1.2 million expansion at the Health Center will house counselors and psychiatrists and provide space to store a mobile dental program.

The 5,000 square-foot building was paid for by nearly $1 million in federal stimulus funding and about $200,000 raised locally.

The federally qualified community health center offers medical, dental and other services to about 9,000 people in and around Plainfield.

Senator Bernie Sanders says that the Health Center is a model for what primary health care –  especially in rural areas of America – should be.
