Fairbanks Scales workers strike

Union members at Fairbanks Scales in Saint Johnsbury are on strike. The workers began marching in protest outside the Fairbanks building at about 6:00 a.m. Monday.

The union and Fairbanks management held contract meetings over the weekend, but they couldn’t reach an agreement over pensions, wage increases and health insurance. The workers are upset that the owner of the company, which is now based in Kansas City, Missouri, has never visited the factory floor.

Fairbanks Scales has about 110 workers at its Saint Johnsbury plant. About 70 of them belong to the local branch of the striking United Electrical Workers union.
