Farmers Market to share parking lot

The Montpelier City County is going back to resolve a territorial dispute at the local farmers’ market by drawing a line with chalk.

The council approved leaving a section of the State Street parking lot open on a first-come-first-serve basis to local groups, musicians and others.

Market officials had requested full control over the entire area, but they were turned down.

The area has been an open space during the warm weather months for musicians, politicians, private vendors and nonprofits.

But market officials felt that some for-profit booths were setting up in the parking lot and living off the coattails of the vendors.
