Federal government recertifies Vermont State Hospital

The Vermont State Hospital has regained its federal certification and is winning back millions of dollars in federal Medicaid funding. State officials had been awaiting word from federal inspectors for months after the hospital passed a critical inspection over the summer. The final inspections took place two weeks ago.

The hospital lost its federal certification and funding last year after two patients committed suicide within six weeks of each other. Federal inspectors found the hospital was not providing a basic level of care. In the past year, state officials changed management at the hospital and invested in more staff, training and physical improvements.
