Federal prosecutors say they won’t file any criminal charges over financial problems at Burlington Telecom, a municipally-owned Vermont company.
Two weeks after county prosecutor T.J. Donovan balked at filing charges in the case of Burlington Telecom, U.S. Attorney Tristram Coffin said federal prosecutors were closing their investigation into possible violations of federal law by Burlington Telecom and its related entities and individuals.
Coffin said Thursday that the probe produced insufficient evidence to file charges.
Donovan has said that even though the telecom provider was kept afloat with $17 million in city funds, in violation of its operating license, there wasn’t enough evidence to make a good criminal case against city officials or anyone with Burlington Telecom.
