Teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency have arrived in New Hampshire to begin assessing damage from last week’s ice storm.

Seven teams will be checking the extent of damage to help determine if the state will qualify for federal disaster aid.

State Homeland Security Director Chris Pope says the teams are working on a preliminary assessment. A detailed review will be conducted later, if the state is granted federal disaster aid.

Meanwhile, the state has closed more than a dozen state parks, forests and trails in the southern part of the state because of ice storm damage.

The state says the closures are necessary to give crews time to inspect and clean up damage to roads, bridges, dams and trails.

The state also says all trails in southern New Hampshire should be considered hazardous.
