Ferrisburgh delays discussion of Grange building’s future

The historic Grange building that was destroyed by fire was on the minds of voters in Ferrisburgh at town meeting on Tuesday. But officials say it’s too soon to discuss what to do about the building.

Work was supposed to start now to renovate the building for use as town offices. But a fire early last month destroyed the building. Sixty-four-year-old James Husk, of Vergennes, has pleaded not guilty to arson charges.

On Tuesday, residents began facing the issue of how to finance the recovery. The proposed town budget had included
$250,000 for the Grange restoration. Voters approved taking the money out of the budget.

Officials plan to call another town meeting, probably in May, to see if the town wants to rebuild the historic Grange Hall.
