The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is lifting temporary water use restrictions on a section of Lake Champlain downstream from areas treated for sea lampreys.
The water restriction will be officially lifted at noon today. It had been in effect between Cedar Mountain in Benson and the Ticonderoga ferry crossing.
Earlier this month Fish and Wildlife officials treated sections of the Poultney and Hubbardton rivers to kill the parasitic sea lampreys, which prey on trout, salmon and other fish in Lake Champlain.
State Fisheries Biologists Brian Chipman says experts won’t be able to tell how effective the lamprey-reduction program was until next summer.
