About 5,000 anglers are expected to compete this weekend in the Lake Champlain International Fishing Derby. The annual three-day event offers about $250,000 in cash and prizes.

A study by the University of Vermont business school showed that the Derby injects about three million dollars into the area’s economy. Business leaders say the anglers spend their money on campgrounds, lodging, marinas, restaurants and tackle shops.
