Five towns pass emergency planning resolution

(Host) Five towns near the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant have passed a resolution to address what they see as gaps in emergency planning.

A group called “Nuclear Free Vermont by 2012” initiated the resolution. It was on the ballot in five towns within the plant’s ten-mile emergency planning zone.

Ed Anthes of Dummerston is a spokesman for the group.

(Anthes) “It shows that the people who live in the evacuation zone know that there are a lot of improvements that have to be made in the plan for it to work. It shows that the people who live here know that we have to plan for everyone and have decontamination and radiation monitoring for everyone, not 20% of the people.”

(Host) The towns are Guilford, Marlboro, Halifax, Dummerston and Brattleboro.
