(Host) Vermont’s largest hospital has named their interim CEO to the top position.

Doctor John Brumsted will serve as president and chief executive officer of Fletcher Allen Health Care and its integrated system with Central Vermont Medical Center, known as Fletcher Allen Partners.

Brumsted has been leading the hospital since the departure of Doctor Melinda Estes last August.

Brumsted says Fletcher Allen is facing several challenges, including the future of federal health care reimbursements and support of academic programs.

And he says the hospital needs to stay involved with health care reform efforts underway at the Statehouse.

(Brumsted) "Our challenge is to stay engaged in every way that we can in those conversations, and particularly here in Vermont, be very actively engaged with those in state government, as the Vermont health care reform takes hold, and the health care exchanges are formed in 2014."

(Host) Brumsted has previously served as the hospital’s chief medical officer and as an associate dean at the UVM College of Medicine.
