For drivers, good news at the gas pump

(Host) There’s a little bit of good economic news at Vermont gas stations: Prices have dropped.

The statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline has fallen to $3.23.

In some places, the price has dipped below $3 a gallon.

Tom Williams is the Vermont manager of AAA of Northern New England.

(Williams) “I was kind of surprised yesterday. I live in Central Vermont. We were still in the $3.20 range. But the night before last I was down in Rutland and there were some places that were down at $2.98. So 70 miles away you’re talking a difference of 20 or 30 cents a gallon and that always surprises me.”

(Host) Just a month ago, the average price was 40 cents higher.

AAA expects that prices will continue to fall. That’s because the price of crude oil has plummeted to $82 a barrel. Also, motorists are driving less and they’re moving to more efficient cars and trucks.
