For-profit nursing service may close

Vermont’s only for-profit home health care group will have to close unless someone steps forward in the next few days with a big shot of funding.

Jean McHenry, president of Professional Nurses Service, says her company must raise $650,000 in new investment “in the next few days,” or its 200 nurses and other health workers will be laid off.

The Vermont Agency of Human Services, meanwhile, says it’s working to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of care for the mostly homebound patients who rely on PNS for home health visits.

McHenry says her agency serves about 175 patients a day.
