Forest fire continues on NH mountain, peregrine falcons OK

A stubborn forest fire continues to burn on Rattlesnake Mountain in Rumney, but officials say a month-old peregrine falcon chick nesting nearby is doing fine.

More than 80 firefighters spent yesterday trying to extinguish the fire, which began Wednesday in the White Mountain National Forest and has consumed 54 acres so far.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Forest Service says smoke below over the falcons’ nest, but not enough to harm the chick.
