Former UN diplomat Peter Galbraith says he’s going to run for a Vermont state Senate seat from Windham County.

Galbraith was fired from a UN post in Afghanistan after a disagreement over last year’s presidential election there.

He has also served as a U.S. ambassador to Croatia and as a cabinet member for East Timor’s first transitional government.

Galbraith is also a former chairman of the Vermont Democratic Party.

Galbraith says that even though he has spent years outside Vermont, Townshend has always remained his legal home.

Galbraith’s father is the late economist John Kenneth Galbraith. He moved his family to Townshend in 1947.
