The former head of Green Mountain Power Corp. has been appointed to head up the Vermont Telecommunications Authority.

Christopher Dutton left GMP in 2008, after the company was acquired by a Canadian energy firm. The 59-year-old Dutton had served as CEO of Vermont’s second largest power company since 1997.

Now he’ll spearhead the VTA’s efforts to bring cellular phone service and broadband Internet access to all parts of Vermont.

The appointment was announced Friday by Gov. Jim Douglas and legislative leaders.
