The former president of the Mace tear gas and pepper spray company in Vermont has been fined $100,000 for storing hazardous waste at a company plant without a permit.

Sixty-six-year-old Jon Goodrich paid the fine in federal court on Wednesday. Goodrich is the former president of the Bennington operations of Mace Personal Defense, a subsidiary of Mace Security International.

Goodrich had pleaded guilty to the charge in January.

He and Mace were charged with keeping hazardous waste in buildings at the Bennington plant and in shipping containers outside.

Mace previously pleaded guilty and paid a separate $100,000 fine. The company says it spent $785,000 cleaning the site.
