A benefit concert planned for Evanne Weirick, the founder of the Balkan Chorus, has become a celebration of her life. Weirick died on Thursday at home in Newark.

Two benefit shows planned for the St. Johnsbury school auditorium will go on this weekend as a tribute to Weirick, who started the Balkan Chorus a decade ago and nurtured it to national prominence.

Among the Chorus’ highlights was an appearance in the Sissy Spacek-Marrissa Tomei movie, “In the Bedroom.” The chorus also performed on “A Prairie Home Companion” from Muncie, Indiana.
