Governor Jim Douglas says $1.5million in state housing grants will help to create a $16 million investment.

The state is giving out grants to four communities to help them get projects going.

The biggest grant was $695,000 to help Brattleboro create 29 units of housing and preserve eight more.

Cavendish will be using $390,000 to rehabilitate eight units and build six more in the village of Proctorsville.

A building in Hardwick that was damaged by a fire will be rebuilt in part using $255,000 dollars.

And Saint Albans will use $212,000 to buy 17 condominiums from a private developer, reselling nine of them to low- and moderate-income families.
