Four private colleges join web-based list

Four private Vermont colleges have joined a new Web-based source to provide information about themselves to applicants and their parents.

University and College Accountability Network, or U-CAN, was started last week the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities to provide detailed profiles of private schools in an unranked format.

Marlboro, Middlebury, St. Michael’s and Sterling colleges are among the 600 schools who have agreed to participate.

The association says the listing is not intended to compete with the yearly U.S. News & World Report ranking, which 60 college presidents including Marlboro’s boycotted.

The group says the listing was created in response to demand for comparable, relevant and easily accessible information.
