News travels fast these days, and when word arrived early this week that long-time diplomatic veteran Richard Holbrooke had died, many people who knew him personally and professionally had little time to absorb the shock.

Peter Galbraith was one of those stunned by Holbrooke’s passing. Galbraith was recently elected state Senator from Windham County, and was involved in the negotiations Holbrooke brokered that led to the 1995 Dayton Peace accord and ended the war in Bosnia.

VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb spoke with Galbraith to learn more about his personal and professional relationship with Richard Holbrooke. And Galbraith  said he was glad to speak with us about a man he worked closely with and came to know as a trusted friend.
