Gasoline prices around $3.75 per gallon for regular unleaded are prompting more Vermonters to try carpooling and public transportation.

A spokesman for the state Agency of Transportation says park-and-ride lot in Richmond is at overflow capacity now pretty much every weekday.

VTrans is working on opening a temporary gravel park-and-ride lot near the existing one in Richmond that should hold an additional 60 cars.

Meanwhile, ridership on Chittenden County Transportation Authority buses is up sharply.

That includes the special Link Express buses the CCTA sends outside the county to Montpelier, Middlebury and St. Albans.
