The Georgia Mountain wind project is online and making power in time to take advantage of a federal tax credit.

The Georgia Mountain Community Wind farm announced Monday its four turbines in the towns of Georgia and Milton are fully operational and capable of providing about 8 percent of the electricity used by the Burlington Electric Department.

Burlington Electric and Georgia Mountain have signed a long-term power supply contract.

The 10 megawatt project is expected to produce about 27 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year.

Many wind energy producers across the country were working to get projects online by the end of the year so they could take advantage of a federal tax credit. Efforts by Congress to extend the credit have failed.
