Governor Peter Shumlin has named Eldred French to replace outgoing Rutland County Senator William Carris.

Carris had represented Rutland as a Democrat in the Senate since 2006, but resigned after winning the November election due to health issues.

French served two terms as a Democrat in the House, but lost his re-election bid in November. French is an arborist. He’s run Acorn Tree Service for nearly 40 years.
