Governor signs stormwater legislation

Vermont’s new stormwater rules have been signed into law by Governor Jim Douglas. The governor signed the bill yesterday during a ceremony on the University of Vermont campus.

He also signed a bill that makes it illegal for anglers to sell or use lead sinkers in Vermont, and a bill that strips the Legislature of its ability to oversee the deer herd and deer-hunting regulations. Douglas says the bills are important to Vermont’s economic future.

The new stormwater rules are designed to clear up permitting and regulatory questions about the discharge of stormwater. The lack of such a law had left developers unable to obtain permits for projects.
