A Green Mountain College student has pleaded not guilty to a charge that he beat and sexually assaulted a fellow student.

Arthur Field of Warwick, N.Y., appeared in court Tuesday after posting $25,000 bail following his arrest Monday.

The Rutland Herald reports a prosecutor asked Judge William Cohen to bar the 22-year-old Field from the college. But Field’s attorney said those conditions are designed to set Field up to fail.

Cohen ordered Field to not contact the alleged victim, but stopped short of barring him from campus. The college later released a statement saying Field was being placed on interim suspension.

Field is accused of repeatedly punching, choking and assaulting a female student in his dormitory room on Jan. 26.

This case was dismissed on Oct. 28, 2014.
