The Northern Pass project would carry power generated in Quebec through transmission lines stretching 180 miles from the Canadian border, through New Hampshire to southern New England.

Some of the lines would run along existing public service rights of way. But in northern New Hampshire, no right of way yet exists for the proposed 150-foot-wide corridor.

Among those opposed to the plans is the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, a conservation group that has been in existence for more than a century.

Jack Savage is vice president with the group. He spoke with Vermont Edition about their opposition to the project.
