An advocacy group for prison inmates wants the Vermont Corrections Department to change the way managers are promoted. The Alliance for Prison Justice says that for many years, promotions have been based more on office politics than on objective assessment of an individual’s qualifications.
Vermont Corrections Commissioner Steve Gold says he’s planning to present a suggestion next week on how to solve problems in the state’s prisons. And that solution will include finding a way for groups like the alliance to let their opinions be known to the department.
