The mother of a Vermonter who died last week in Iraq says she will attend a memorial service tomorrow at Fort Stewart in Georgia. Chief Warrant Officer Fourth Class Erik Halvorsen died while piloting a Black Hawk helicopter near the city of Karbala.

Dorothy Halvorsen has set up a college scholarship in her son’s memory. The fund will benefit Mount Anthony Union High School high school students. The Army has not released Erik Halvorsen’s body to return to the United States, so no date has been set for a funeral. But family members are planning a full military service.
