Harris Hill ski jump meets fundraising goal

Brattleboro’s Harris Hill Ski Jump is coming back.

Organizers of a fundraising drive aimed at reviving the Olympic-sized ski jump say they’ve met their goal and will have a new facility in place by next year to host the 85th Annual Fred Harris Memorial Tournament.

The jump opened in 1922. It’s hosted national ski jumping championships and Olympic qualifiers. But in 2005, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association determined that its wooden takeoff ramp had become unsafe.

Last fall, organizers announced plans to raise $300,000 for repairs. This week, a $130,000 donation from a charitable foundation clinched the deal.
