Haystack development forces fire truck purchase

Development at the Haystack ski area is forcing the town of Wilmington to invest in a new fire truck.

The new owners of Haystack are developing real estate at the resort that will include several buildings of at least six stories.

That means the town would need a ladder truck or a combination ladder-pumper truck.

So resort owner “One-Cornell Incorporated” has offered to contribute $250,000 toward the purchase, which town officials estimate will cost $700,000.
