Police say the Vermont hazardous materials team helped dispose of a number of potentially dangerous chemicals found in a South Burlington home.

South Burlington Police say they were notified at about 1 p.m. Thursday that suspicious liquids were found in a Swift Street home. The current occupant said the items had been left behind by a prior tenant.

Officials found a box containing glass jars filled with an unknown liquid. The manner of storage and appearance of the liquid led police to believe the substance might be hazardous.

Experts determined the materials did not pose an immediate hazard if left undisturbed, but that they needed to be disposed of by experts. A local hazardous materials disposal company was called in to dispose of the liquids.
