Officials say it’s likely that next week’s court hearing for the man charged along with his wife in the killing of a St. Johnsbury prep school teacher will be postponed.

Thirty-year-old Alan Prue of Waterford is charged in the March killing of Melissa Jenkins, and was scheduled for a status conference June 14. The defense has filed a motion to postpone the hearing.

A judge has not yet ruled on the motion but Caledonia County State’s Attorney Lisa Warren said Monday that lawyers are still gathering information on the case.

Alan and Patricia Prue are accused of luring Jenkins from her home by pretending to have a broken-down car, killing her and dumping her body in the Connecticut River.

The Prues are charged with second degree murder.
