High Speed Internet Comes To Rural Towns

High-speed Internet is coming to a group of rural Vermont communities, thanks to investments made by a community-owned service provider.

The East Central Vermont Community Fiber Network – known as ECFiber –  is extending service to areas of Chelsea, Vershire, Thetford, Norwich, Tunbridge and Strafford.

ECFiber raises money from local investors and subscribers for its network. No public money has been used in the project so far.

A 23-town consortium formed ECFiber to build a municipally-owned fiber-optic network. So far ECFiber’s network serves parts of Bethel, Royalton, Barnard and Pomfret.
