The progressive candidate for lieutenant governor says he opposes a planned regional technical academy in Chittenden County. Steve Hingtgen says he’s a strong supporter of technical education, but he has concerns about the plan to merge existing technical programs in Burlington and Essex into one school in Essex. Hingtgen says the issues of transportation, class schedules and governing the school still need to be addressed.

Residents in 23 towns in Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle counties will vote on Election Day on whether to approve the project. Incumbent Lieutenant Governor Brian Dubie has also voiced his opposition to the plan.
