The Socialist Labor Party Hall in Barre was built at the turn of the 20th century by Italian granite workers as a place to gather for dances, political rallies, and community celebrations. They built the boxy structure out of brick because they were paying for it themselves, and granite was too expensive. In the past couple of decades the building has been lovingly restored and is slowly returning to its role as a gathering place for the community. VPR’s Jane Lindholm paid it a visit and brings back this report.
