Hospital oversight bill would open board meetings

A new legislative proposal would make board meetings of non-profit hospitals open to the public.

The idea has gained new momentum because of the controversy at Fletcher Allen Health Care. A number or critics say the Burlington hospital’s problems with its multi-million-dollar Renaissance Project might not be so bad if there had been more public oversight.

Representative Daryl Pillsbury of Brattleboro is the lead sponsor of the bill. The legislation is co-sponsored by independents, Democrats, Republicans and Progressives.
