The Vermont House has voted by a wide margin in favor of expanding the state lottery to include a big jackpot multi-state game. Lawmakers were asked to vote on an amendment that would have stripped authorizing language for a multi-state game out of a budget bill. That vote was 49 in favor of deleting the authorizing language and 96 in favor of it.

State officials have said they would be likely to add Powerball to the state’s array of lottery games. It’s projected jackpot for this weekend is $27 million. Backers of Powerball say it would add more than three million dollars for education.
