Hunter Avoids Jail Time In Son’s Death

A Lyndon man who accidentally shot his 17-year-old son to death while they were turkey hunting has been given a three-year deferred sentence.

Judge Howard Vanbenthuysen said no punishment could match the one that Kevin Kadamus has inflicted on himself. The judge on Monday called the shooting a momentary lapse in judgement that had the most horrible of results.

Kadamus pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter in August in the May 1 death of his son Jacob.

Kadamus will receive no jail time as long as his record stays clean. He is not permitted to hunt or possess weapons for 10 years and must complete 150 hours of community service.
