An underground water leak prompted the loss of more than 100,000 gallons of water and forced schools in Arlington to close.

Crews using listening devices Thursday to find the leak, which reduced water pressure dramatically in some places and cut off water entirely to some homes, that prompted early dismissals at Arlington Memorial Middle and High School and Fisher Elementary School.

The schools are closed Friday as a result.

The leak was found about 5:30 p.m. yesterday evening and water pressure returned to normal.

A conservation advisory was posted and town officials urged people to not to wash their cars or water their lawns.
