The inauguration ceremony itself was part of the story in Montpelier. It included acknowledgements of many dignitaries. Among those recognized were the former governors as well as former Lieutenant Governor Barbara Snelling. Lola Aiken, Senator Jim Jeffords and the five members of the Vermont Supreme Court were also introduced as they joined the proceedings.
The constitutional officers were sworn in, and there were two invocations and a benediction. And there was music. “America the Beautiful” filled the well of the House at one point. And later the Spaulding High School A Capella group performed the Vermont State Song, “These Green Mountains.”
