Most of us have had the experience at one time or another driving late at night on a long road trip, your head starts to feel heavy, your eyelids flutter, and the next thing you know you’re snapping your head back as you suddenly realize you’ve nodded off and drifted into another lane, or have started to go off the road entirely.

It’s drowsy driving, and it’s more common than you think

Adele Kristiansson is the legislative affairs director for the national Road Safety Foundation. She spoke with VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb about the problem.
