The September primaries are a ways off, but if straw poll voting held in Barre over the weekend is any indication, Republicans Martha Rainville and Richard Tarrant can expect to be the GOP picks to vie for seats in the House and Senate mid-term elections.

Rainville, the former adjutant general of the VT Guard won the straw vote by a wide margin over Bennington County State Senator Mark Shepard. Businessman Richard Tarrant also won handily over retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel Greg Parke. But Parke and Shepard both say they have no intention of backing out of the primary race.

Associated Press reporter Ross Sneyd spoke with Mitch Wertlieb about the poll.
